Let’s talk about Kirk Cousins’s postgame burgundy blazer

If you watched Kirk Cousins’s postgame press conference on Sunday, you surely noticed the unusual color of his blazer. And you probably wondered if this was just a coincidental choice or intentional; something he got off the rack at Macy’s or something grander; just a forgettable Sunday afternoon blip or something we might remember for years. The latter, the latter and, with any luck, the latter. “Kirk is an understated guy,” explained Sim Khan, the Montreal native and former lawyer who founded D.C.-based clothier Brimble & Clark. “He isn’t concerned with flash, but his wife Julie wanted to step up his suit game. Kirk naturally went for colors that would support his team: the burgundy and gold. So we made him a custom Redskins-burgundy blazer with golden herringbone pants and a matching golden herringbone tie made with the same fabric. His jacket also includes an uncommon custom ring-pocket on the right side. Maybe he’s planning ahead; sometimes a man reflects his ambitions in his style.”
[Sim Khan on custom suits] I don’t understand 75 percent of those words, but the outfit was certainly striking, and a fitting coda after perhaps the finest game Cousins has played as a pro. Khan, who has fitted custom suits for a host of other professional athletes, described Cousins as “honestly the most humble, genuine, down-to-earth guy I’ve ever encountered in the league,” and so a burgundy blazer — which he had actually debuted before Sunday’s win — isn’t likely to change him. Also, don’t get too exercised, but Cousins had his first fitting while he was still a backup. Do backups wear golden herringbone pants? Eh, why not? Here’s a look at the pants, since I know that’s what you’ve been waiting for.

Let’s start with the suit Deion wore. It was a show-stopper. A three-piece burgundy silk number with a gold tie, gold buttons, gold shoes and a gold pocket handkerchief. It looked like the tailor wove it from the draperies in Dan Snyder’s basement. You know how some Redskins say they bleed burgundy and gold? Well, if they do, and they get it on Deion, it won’t stain. “Norv and I are going to get suits just like it,” Snyder said. “We’ll all go to dinner. You’ll come, too, right?” Yeah, sure. Where we going, a drive-through? While others asked Deion about football yesterday at Redskin Park, I concentrated on that splendiferous suit. I’d never seen anything quite like it–outside of Radio City Music Hall. “You’ll see how I dress this season,” Deion said. “You’ll understand.”
